Adult and Child Neuropsychology

Thomas E. Sullivan earned his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Cincinnati in 1994. His research focused on the behavioral impact of traumatic brain injury. He received extensive training in the evaluation and treatment of children with developmental impairments.

At Yale University School of Medicine, while completing his doctoral internship, Dr. Sullivan conducted research in adult neuropsychology. His fellowship in Pediatric Neuropsychology at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC) broadened his expertise to include the evaluation of children with brain injury, illness, or malformation. Dr. Sullivan has served on the staff at CCHMC continuously since 1993.

Neuropsychologist as Expert Witness

Dr. Sullivan is a board certified neuropsychologist who has provided over 70,000 hours of neuropsychological services. He devotes approximately 30% of his practice to legal consultation (50% plaintiff; 40% defense; 10% other). In his role as an expert witness, Dr. Sullivan performs scientifically-valid testing capable of withstanding a Daubert challenge. His evaluations can:

  • detect even mild brain damage
  • verify the likely cause of impairment
  • predict lasting effects of injuries
  • expose malingering ("faking")

Medical Record Review and Analysis

Dr. Sullivan is often retained for his expert analytical skills in reviewing previous brain injury evaluations by unqualified practitioners. Review by an expert in the field can help identify erroneous results and rectify mistaken conclusions. Expert reviews of medical records may also reveal critical information about the history of a client's neuropsychological difficulties.

Clinical and Consulting Neuropsychology

In addition to his forensic neuropsychology practice and work with professional athletes, Dr. Sullivan operates a busy private practice as a clinical neuropsychologist, providing assessments and conducting therapy. Dr. Sullivan continues to teach and supervise clinical psychology doctoral students from the University of Cincinnati and Xavier University.
